Summer, 2015

July 1, 2015 By Peggy Short

We’ve entered summer with lots of custom card orders like special cards with vintage look for Trinidad Trading Company, Trinidad, CA.  Elephant-theme cards for PachydermPower! at a summer festival and cards with Frida Kahlo theme for a special week end at Bella Frida in Louisville, CO.  Also, I’m so pleased to have more individuals order special, custom cards – whether for birthdays, special celebrations like retirement or the passing of a companion dog.

A friend sent a special Wabi-Ware father’s day card to her son-in-law; and after viewing it, he wrote on the envelope: KEEP THIS CARD!  I also heard from a woman for whom I made a card celebrating her promotion.  The person who bought the card told me what colors and embellishments to use.  Well, the woman who received the card told me that she opened the envelope and was totally shocked!  She said she kept thinking, “Why this is me!  This card is totally for me!”  She was deeply touched and pleased.

Wabi-Ware has a new venue – Ace Gallery at 222 Pine Street, Old Town, Fort Collins.  Their Grand Opening is Friday, July 3.  We will have a variety of themed cards to accommodate locals’ and tourists’ interests.  Right now, we are creating cards with the following themes:  bees, bicycles and more Frida Kahlo and Our Lady of Guadalupe cards.  Keep in touch, as we’d be delighted to make up a custom card just for you!

Custom graduation card

May 6, 2015 By Peggy Short

A customer who received a Wabi-Ware card last year now orders custom cards for her family.  Today we received such a heartening e-mail from her saying, “The mailman just arrived and lo – so did my granddaughter’s great graduation card!  I LOVE IT!  I LOVE IT! Of course, she will love the card which fits her to a “T” and will have it all of her life with her memorabilia.  You will be well-remembered.”

It is for this reason we make these cards – to touch the people who order them and the people who receive them.  If we listen well, we include elements that, indeed, fit the recipients to a “T”!  We will make cards with special embellishments and papers that match the occasion.  So, for example, we might include the colors of the high school or college along with a graduation cap and gown.  A few months ago we made several cards with images of India, passports and travel gear for a Mom to give her children traveling with her to India.  Feel free to pitch an idea, and we’ll collaborate with you to come up with a card that fits.

Spring in Colorado

April 12, 2015 By Peggy Short

The winds from the Front Range foothills are blowing the apple blossoms on the trees along my front walk-way.  I have been making cards with garden and nest themes and beginning to prepare for making cards featuring bicycles and camping, picnics and mountains.  Also, mindful of Kristal Parks’s passion about preserving the African elephant, I continue to create cards featuring elephants.   We sent elephant charms for Kristal to take to some of the members of her elephant kindness clubs, as she returns to Kenya this week.  To read about her projects, you can check out PachydermPower.org, which is also on Facebook.  If any of you are interested in purchasing elephant-theme cards, you may check out some of the designs on the Wares page here – and your purchase will benefit PachydermPower.  Spring Greetings to my friends in the Northern Hemisphere – and warm wishes to my friends in Australia as you move toward winter.  Thank you for the great greeting stamps from Australia and Switzerland; the stamps are going into card collages now!

Looking for Spring in Colorado

February 17, 2015 By Peggy Short

The winter days are getting shorter, and with the brighter days, I am hearing and seeing more birds and seeing bits of green sprouts in between snow patches. With Valentine’s over, now is a time to focus on Spring colors and nature themes. We are working on cards featuring nests and birds, planting seeds, bicycling. It’s a bit of a jump on the season, but perhaps it will coax Spring to come a little early.
